Surfing in Sweden is no joke but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it a laughing matter. Comparing six foot barreling sunny tropical waves at some spot in Indo to a four degree, gale force onshore two foot chop is like comparing Ghandi with a block of blue cheese, you can’t.

I’m no expert at all on surfing in Sweden, only having 2 short surfs since I got here, both a short ride from eachother. But all you need is one session in winter to have some new respect for the Swedish surf community and new appreciation for how good us ocean surfers have it. The onshore days back home where we would sit and wonder if it was really worth a paddle would have a Swedish surfer running like a man possessed into the lineup.

Still you get stoked in the Baltic, it is still surfing and one good wave can make it all worth it. Keep you stoked until the next session and remind yourself that you really are still a surfer and why you are. Exploration along the long coast of the Baltic has shown some gems to the few that are willing to put the time in. That’s what I think surfing has always been about, something different, getting off land and exploring. Having a laugh, seeing some place new, shocking your senses and resetting from the 9-5 grind of work and bills with a couple of good rides. It’s no warm water Indo but it can still get you stoked, you just have to be willing to have a laugh.
